It’s a few days after the end of KCON NY 2018 and it’s safe to say that this year broke major records with over 53,000 people attending the event. This year KCON NY took place in Newark, NJ on June 23-24th. There were panels, workshops, and meet and greets with special guests in the morning. Then in the evening we were treated amazing concerts.
The event sold out within a few minutes after the final artist lineup was announced. This caused the organizers to change the stage layout and open up more seats. Shortly after, the additional seats ultimately sold out as well.
Fans who couldn’t make it to the convention were able to watch as Billboard live-streamed the STAR Live Talk exclusively on their YouTube and Facebook pages. The Red Carpet event was live-streamed through KCON USA’s own Twitter account. The concerts streamed by Mwave and sponsored by McDonald’s garnered more than 100,000 viewers, the highest number for KCON NY since its inauguration in 2015. KCON 2018 NY live-streams reached more than one million views collectively in less than 24 hours.
Personally, this year was especially great for me because my son was able to experience it for the first time. It was great seeing KCON through his eyes as he got to meet his favorite YouTubers and artists. I also participated in the Hallyu Fans Over 30 workshop which i would like to thank everyone one stopped by for supporting us. Experiencing KCON with my son made the experience like new again. His little fanboy heart reignited the passion and love i have for K-pop. Be sure to check back next week to hear how he felt about his first KCON.
