My girls are back and better than ever! This week in K-pop, my favorite girl group, Dreamcatcher, released their second mini album, ‘Nightmare – Escape the ERA’. They have kicked off promotions for their single ‘You And I’. I have been waiting for this album for months and I was so excited when it finally dropped. I knew from the teaser images that the concept was going to stay in the creepy and mysterious zone that Dreamcatcher concepts have been known for, but I have to say these black outfits are KILLING ME. The style is on point for this era and everyone looks amazing! More importantly, where can I find one of these shirts because I am in LOVE with them!
Amazing outfits aside, I’m here to talk about the music video for the new single ‘You And I‘. The song starts out with a music box-esque intro, similar to other Dreamcatcher releases of the past. Yoohyeon is running towards a weird blue portal and then the video cuts to the group. The setting of the MV feels very familiar. Several of Dreamcatcher’s earlier videos take place inside a hotel. this video seems to carry on a similar feeling, though to location does seem a bit different this time around. Throughout the video are several scenes that recall earlier singles from the group, and longtime fans will have fun comparing the similar moments.
Although the girls have always been on top of their game, I also noticed that the vocals are really strong on this single and I am loving the power in the voices. The drum-heavy beat brings a healthy dose of rock and roll to the K-pop genre once again, and as always, I am here cheering in the distance for more. The moments of group choreography especially caught my attention. I was glad to see the use of props in the choreo this time around. Dreamcatcher’s choreography never lets me down and I think they did a great job in ‘You And I’ as well. I’m not EXACTLY sure why Dreamcatcher always seems to be sacrificing one of their own in their videos, but I enjoy the dark themes regardless.
Once again, these girls have thrilled me and I can’t wait to see how this video connects to the others from their previous work. Good luck to Dreamcatcher as they promote ‘You And I’ and congratulations to them for making it in at number seven on the Billboard World Albums chart! Keep it up, ladies!
