I’ve been meaning to write this article for a while but I couldn’t because I’ve had Heize’s newest album, Wind on repeat since it dropped earlier this month. Good grief this album is GOOD! Heize is such a talented singer/rapper/producer that it gives me chills. Let me back up and let you know more about this beautiful musician before diving into her latest creation.
Heize debuted in 2014 on the CJ E&M label with a self-titled album. After releasing ‘Heize’, she appeared on Unpretty Rapstar 2. Even though she didn’t win the show, her popularity grew. She released two more albums, ‘And July’ in 2016, and ‘Clouds’ in 2017. In addition to that, she released singles, toured all over the world, collaborated on other artists’ albums and was simply a beast.
Now she’s released ‘Wind’ and I am absolutely here for it. The EP has six songs, well five actual songs and one instrumental song, and each full song could be a title track. As a matter of fact, the album has 2 title tracks, Jenga and Didn’t Know Me.
Jenga is an upbeat song where Heize discusses trying to stop playing games with a loved one. Gaecko lends his voice to the song and this duo and this song is just perfect. The chord progression on this song is just so dang good that I have a hard time moving past it when listening to the album.
Didn’t Know Me is the second title track of the album. This one is hard for me to listen to. The song itself is beautiful but the lyrics and style (a slow-moving ballad that causes you to think about things you don’t want to think about) puts me into a place I’m not ready to be. When you think about it, these two songs show Heize’s versatility; being able to create dance-worthy music as well as ballads that cause you to remember loves lost.
I could go on forever about how amazing Heize’s album is but I think it would be better for you to decide for yourself. Check out Wind and let me know what you think of it. Also, what is your favorite Heize song? Let me know in the comment section below!
