Exo’s Sehun recently announced that he was no longer accepting gifts from EXO-L’s. He explained in a letter addressed to his fans that there are a lot of people around us who need more love and that giving back to those in need and giving them hope will be the greatest birthday present I can get. Sehun’s announcement follows members D.O, Xiumin, Lay and Chen who had previously said they would stop accepting fans gifts as well.

I have conflicting feelings about this. I’ve never spent more than an extra $30 on a gift for any idol. I do, however, understand that feeling of need to give your favorite artist a special token of your affection. You can see stuffed animals and other items being thrown on stage if you watch concert fancams. Some fans go so far as to give their favorite artists expensive gifts like gaming stations or designer brand clothing.

I don’t know where fans, especially the younger ones, get the funding for the expensive gifts.  I’m glad that Sehun and the other members of EXO are asking for them to stop showering them with pricey gifts. Hopefully, fans will use their money to help less fortunate people. All EXO wants is our love and appreciation. I might still buy the occasional teddy bear for someone, but I’m glad that artists are letting fans know it’s not required.

What do you think of Sehun’s announcement? Have you ever given your favorite artist a gift? What was it? Let us know in the comment section below!
