On January 25th the Seoul Music Awards were held at the Gocheok Sky Dome in Korea. After watching the artists, staff, and reporters struggle in the freezing cold on the red carpet, it was a relief to know that everyone finally got to go inside and get out of the terrible chill for the rest of the night.

The show started off with a flashy performance by boy group Monsta X. I don’t know who has been in charge of their wardrobe lately, but that person deserves a raise. Monsta X set the tone for the evening, bringing the hype and getting the crowd ready to scream all night as awards were announced. Everyone that took the stage brought so much fun to the venue and gave great performances for the audience to remember.

The awards categories and their winners are as follows:

Other highlights of the night for me included the performance of RBTY by Iamnot. I had never heard of them before and I really enjoyed both the vocals and the slightly groovy bass line going on in the song. I was also really happy to see Super Junior hitting the stage again in those great jackets! Lack of sleep aside (the constant struggle of international fans who get deep into the k-pop life) awards season is always so exciting and I love watching all of the great performances and seeing idols go up to give their speeches to the audience. Here’s to another year of good music!
