I don’t think I’ve been this excited for a while. Holland’s name has been on the lips of many K-pop fans since it was reported that he would be the first openly gay idol to debut. He is debuting as a solo artist and is joining the not-so-large community of celebrities LGBTQ like Harisu and Hong Suk Chun.
Holland released a music video for his song Neverland earlier today. The mid-tempo song and the beat are so damn catchy, I actually forgot to watch the video. I had to watch it a second time and really pay attention. The first thing I noticed was that the men in the video, the blonde one is Holland, looked like regular guys. I’m glad they took this approach and didn’t try to go over the top with flamboyancy. It’s so important to show the normalcy of their relationship.
The video is visually pleasing and Holland’s voice blends well with the music. If I’m being honest though, I prefer him singing with the background singers then on his own. I will have to get used to it. The video shows the men enjoying time together as a couple and what they would do on a day out at the beach. The beach scene where the two are walking hand in hand, laughing and drink beer together seemed so perfect, it made me wish I were there. Seriously, did you see that kiss?
All in all, I believe this is a solid beginning to Holland’s career. I hope that people will focus more on his singing and less on his sexuality. Only time will tell. Make sure you follow Holland on all his social media to stay up-to-date on his activities.
