First things first. What is up with this band’s name? Up That Brown? I really hope it’s referring to the brown color of the horns because with the exception of their name, I am REALLY digging their sound.
Surprisingly, this isn’t their first song. The group, who is signed to Mirrorball Music, created their Youtube channel over 2 years ago after uploading cover songs of popular songs like Red Velvet’s Dumb Dumb and Bruno Mars’ Uptown Funk. They also have original songs like Up That Groove and Why. Now Up That Brown is back with a new song What Is It?
The band isn’t really classified as K-pop in the traditional sense. They fit more into K-Indie. What Is It is a mid-tempo groove that consists of a live band and a male and female singer. While I couldn’t find much information on the female singer, the male singer does have an Instagram account that has more videos of him covering singers like Michael Jackson and Arianna Grande.
I find this style of music really enjoyable but I am disheartened to find so little information about them. I’m aching to learn and see more. How many instruments do they have? What was their debut song? Why did they choose the name Up That Brown? So many questions, so few answers. Hopefully, this song will raise their popularity so that we can learn more about them together.
Please support this gem of a group by following them on social media and buying all their music that’s available.
