Wow, 2017. Wanna give us a break here? After everything you have thrown at us this year, you hit us with JYP announcing that the beautiful girls of Miss A have officially disbanded, but let’s not stop there. Now we have rumors of mega world star Psy’s possible departure from YG Entertainment hit the same day. Honestly, I can’t pretend to be surprised at Miss A. I mean, come on. When was the last time you heard anything about any of the members outside of Suzy? And that’s not hating on Suzy, it’s just the honest truth.

It’s also very disappointing considering how talented this group was. Every member had her strengths. Unfortunately, JYP doesn’t seem to be able to walk and chew gum at the same time. As soon as Suzy tasted a bit more fame, they turned the spotlight on her full blast, leaving the other members waiting and wanting. Truthfully, I thought they had disbanded a long time ago when Jia and Min both left the company after the expiration of their contracts. On paper, the group barely surpassed the dreaded six-year life expectancy for K-pop groups before their time ran out. It’s unfortunate, but not unexpected.

But I’ll tell you what is unexpected… Psy possibly leaving YG to form his own company. It’s a surprise if he wants to leave, but I don’t find it surprising that he wants to open his own company. It seems like that’s the common path chosen after an artist separates from their label these days. It’s concerning because the Korean music industry is an animal like no other. To have to face the “Big Three” can be quite scary. However, considering Psy’s own talents, how socially savvy he is and the fact that he has solidified himself into the pages of Korean entertainment history, there’s no doubt that his new business venture will be fine. Now, this is all just speculation at this point. Psy’s contract with YG doesn’t end until late 2018. So this could all just be watercooler talk. Either way, Psy is awesome.

It’s a curious thing, for these rumors about Psy to spread on the same day that the disbandment announcement is made. I wonder if it was intentional. I guess it doesn’t matter now since the cat is out of the bag on both. I wish only the best for Psy and the former members of Miss A going forward.
