The second night of this year’s MAMA Awards took place in Japan on November 29th at the Yokohama Arena. The Red carpet was full of well-dressed artists and celebrities in traditional MAMA style, with brief interviews and introductions of groups that would be performing during the ceremony. Among the performers were girl group Twice, boy group sensations Seventeen and Monsta X, and many more. Veteran K-pop idol, BoA, hosted the night AND slayed her own performance, reminding us that idols of the previous generation are still alive and strong.
Winners for the evening came as a surprise for some but were well deserved all around. Here is a list of the awards presented and the winners for each category:
Inspired Achievement Award: Akimoto Yasushi (Creator of Japanese girl group AKB48)
Best Concert Performer: Monsta X (Starship Entertainment)
Discovery of the Year: Nu’est W (Pledis Entertainment)
Mwave Global Fan Choice: EXO (SM Entertainment)
Best Dance Performance Male: Seventeen (Pledis Entertainment)
Qoo10’s Song of the Year: Twice’s Signal
Personal highlights of the night for me have to be the absolute jaw-dropping moment where Monsta X threw a whole lot of skin at my so-not-ready eyes (while absolutely killing it with their performance), and the surprise super mash-up of girl groups on the stage which included a personal favorite from Japan, girl group AKB48. Seventeen’s performance left me impressed as well. A giant round of applause to all of the great performers of the night, as always!
